An Independence Day by dictionary is defined as a year on year commemoration of the anniversary of a nation’s supposition of independent self, which is usually after refusing to be a colony or part of another state. In most countries it is honored as a holiday of national importance.
The sentiments about the inviolability of America is Independence Day were best articulated in a quotation from the Virginia Gazette on July 18th, 1777 : “Thus may the 4th of July, that glorious and ever memorable day, be celebrated through America , by the sons of freedom, from age to age till time shall be no more. Amen and Amen.”
In the United States of America , Independence Day is marked on the July 4, 1776 , memorializing the declaration of independence by the Continental Congress in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania . At the time of the signing, the US consisted of 13 colonies under the rule of England ‘s King George III. There was growing unrest in the colonies concerning the taxes that had to be paid to England . This was commonly referred to as “Taxation without Representation” as the colonists did not have any representation in the English Parliament and had no say in what went on. As the unrest grew in the colonies, King George sent extra troops to help control any rebellion. In 1774 the 13 colonies sent delegates to Philadelphia Pennsylvania to form the First Continental Congress. The delegates were unhappy with England , but were not yet ready to declare war.
And although the formal signing of the Declaration by the delegates of 13 colonies under rule was not completed until August, the July 4 has been accepted as the official anniversary of US independence. The first Independence Day celebration took place in the following year, i.e. on July 4, 1777.
By the early 18th century, it became a practice to organize march-pasts, outdoor excursions and firework displays to celebrate America ‘s birthday. And although fireworks and fire shows have been banned in most places considering the risk factor, most towns and cities still host the big displays for all to see and enjoy and remember the nationís freedom day in big manner.
With Family and Friends
July 4th is not only the Independence Day for the nation, but it also offers a freedom to gather with family and friends and indulge in merry-making. Ditto to the accordance with the nationalities and ethnicities that make up the US , are the ways to celebrate the day. It is suppose to be a relaxing and yet very exciting day. Anything from hosting a luau, to potluck or may be a barbecue, options are many and choices are independent for Americans to make. Interestingly, only four American holidays continue to be celebrated on their original calendar days: Christmas, Halloween, Independence Day and New Year. And again of all the secular holidays, the July 4th is the only holiday, of whose celebration date resists even the slightest of change. Even in most outmoded times, proposition to alter the day to the preceding Saturday or the following Monday if by chance the July 4th fell on Sunday, were very strongly remonstrated.
